President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo made it on the gossip column, Page Six of the New York Post, a tabloid newspaper with a large circulation in New York. The tabloid fodder said that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her party were seen dining at the upscale French restaurant, Le Cirque in New York City with their bill reportedly reaching $20,000 (P960,000).
MalacaÃÆ’±ang Palace confirmed that the Le Cirque dinner took place but claimed it was a private dinner paid for by the nephew of Imelda Marcos, Rep. Martin Romualdez, the youngest son of Imelda Marcos’s younger brother Benjamin.
The Page Six section of the New York Post wrote this: â€Ã…“The economic downturn hasn’t persuaded everyone to pinch pennies. Philippines President Maria Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was at Le Cirque the other night with a large entourage enjoying the good life, even though the former comptroller of her country’s armed services, Carlos Garcia, was found guilty earlier this year of perjury and two of his sons were arrested in the US on bulk cash-smuggling charges.”
Page Six in an earlier issue mentioned the gay son of Gen. Carlos Garcia, Tim Garcia, PR Head of the high end fashion house, Marc Jacobs (In fairness, galing nya to bag this position ha!), as being out on bail and for using the detector on his leg as a fashion accessory rather than being a liability.
