Korina Sanchez reportedly talked about dark, little evil spirits in her radio program in dzMM. VP Binay felt alluded too and he cried foul. The Vice President then made a letter complaint addressed to ABS-CBN, DZMM, and the KBP. In the complaint, VP Binay accused Korina Sanchez of using her program and her stature in ABS-CBN for personal and political ends. This is not the first time though that Binay’s camp has made a complaint against Korina Sanchez. In March 2011, the Vice President’s camp complained also to ABS-CBN that Korina Sanchez was omitting the mention of VP Binay’s name even in news stories involving him. In his most recent complaint, Korina Sanchez reportedly said in her “Rated Korina” program on Aug. 24:
“Hindi ho ba kaya, noong wala pang DILG secretary ay maraming mga maiitim at maliliit na mga maligno ang siya pong naka-ano dyan, umaabang-abang para makuha po ang pwestong yan. Pero mabuti na lamang po, ay binasbasan po ng kaliwanagan ng pag-iisip ang ating pinuno na si P-Noy at si Secretary Robredo ang kanyang napili para dyan po manungkulan.”
The letter complaint also stated that the complainant is certain he is the one being alluded too even if he was not mentioned in name directly and Korina Sanchez cannot claim that as her defense. Binay’s camp mentioned it as a would-be flimsy defense.
“It is public knowledge that before Robredo’s appointment, Vice President Binay had expressed his preference for the said position because of his background in local governance… No other personality was reported as having expressed interest in the said position.”
Vice President Binay’s camp said such a personal attack erodes the public’s faith in the professionalism and impartiality of ABS-CBN and its news personalities and also shows a clear conflict of interest on the part of Korina Sanchez.
Korina Sanchez is married to Sec. Mar Roxas who was eventually appointed as the new DILG Secretary after the tragic death of Secretary Jesse Robredo. She was also a former girlfriend of P-Noy.
Bong R. Osorio, head of Corporate Communications of ABS-CBN Corporation released a statement saying: “I checked with our ombudsman (ABS-CBN Ombudsman), former Supreme Court Associate Justice Jose C. Vitug, and I was told that he has not received the letter of Mr. Joey Salgado (VP Binay’s aide). We are wondering why other media outlets got the letter ahead of its intended addressee.”
