It took GMA 7 two years to get the exclusive rights to Zorro or The Mask of Zorro Philippine Version. GMA 7 bought the Zorro rights from Sony Pictures I guess for a hefty amount. GMA choose Richard Gutierrez for the role of Zorro and Rhian Ramos and Bianca King as his leading ladies. It can be remembered that the two female lead roles were a contentious one which even prompted ABS-CBN stars to audition for the roles. In the end, the two lead roles went to original (and loyal?) GMA talents Rhian Ramos and Bianca King.

GMA 7 did not flinch on the budget either for the TV series under location in Bagac, Bataan. It also did a fabulous press launch and billboard unveiling. Judging from the promotional photos and the video presentation, Zorro looks promising and is even a must see. Others on the cast are Jomari Yllana, TJ Trinidad, Michelle Madrigal, Sheena Halili, Elvis Gutierrez among others. Zorro premieres on Monday, March 23, 2009 on GMA Telebabad.

akoy masugid na taga hanga ng gma kapuso sana ang i remake nyu naman na telebabad ay ung julian talisman na c jc bonin ang gumanap noon.ska sana gawan nyu rin ung storya ng florante at laura cgurado makklik un sa mga pilipinong tagasubaybay .nakakasawa na kasi ung puro remake ng mga dayuhan sana ung sa panlasang pinoy naman.

[...] Zorro star, Richard Gutierrez, and former TGIS star, Michael Flores, reportedly got into a public scandal at the parking lot of the Oceana Restaurant which is along Seaside Boulevard in Pasay City. Reminiscent in a way with what happened with Bayani Agbayani in a The Fort restaurant’s parking lot also. Epy Quizon, son of Comedy King, Dolphy, was also reportedly involved in the melee. Allegedly, Richard Gutierrez, Michael Flores and allegedly Epy Quizon among others, engaged in a heated squabble which was marred with heated words being exchanged by the parties involved and a gun toting incident allegedly also took place. It was still unclear, however, whether the gun belongs to Richard or Michael or any other party. Richard and Michael use to work together in GMA’s primetime series, Kamandag. The actors were reportedly on their way home after attending the 40th birthday party of director Mark Reyes when the incident happened. Others are denying that the particular incident happened though, saying that they saw Richard Gutierrez leaving the party peacefully with Zorro co-stars Bubbles Paraiso and Michelle Madrigal, but those ‘others’ happened to have seen them left the restaurant itself and not on the vicinity of the restaurant’s parking lot. What is even more intriguing is that the GMA Network-owned website, Philippine Entertainment Portal or PEP, has initially run this story then abruptly removed it from their posts.
