The Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) announced the nominees of the 24th Star Awards For
Movies 2008, to be held on June 27, in the Henry Lee Irwin Theater, Ateneo De Manila University, Quezon City. The late Rudy Fernandez will be awarded a posthumous Ulirang Artista Lifetime
Achievement Award.

Here’s the list of nominees:

Movie/Director of the Year Mainstream Category:

Movie/Director of the Year Digital Category:
Confessional (Jerrold Tarog and Ruel Antipuesto),Pisay (Aureaus Solito), Selda (Paolo Villaluna and Ellen Ramos), Tambolista(Adolfo Borinaga Alix Jr.), and Tribu (Jim Libiran).

Movie Actor of the Year:
Paolo Contis (Banal), John Lloyd Cruz (One More Chance), Ryan Eigenmann (Baliw), Sid Lucero (Selda), Aga Muhlach (A Love Story), and Piolo Pascual (Paano Kita Iibigin?).

Movie Actress of the Year:
Ai-Ai delas Alas (Ang Cute ng Ina Mo), Bea Alonzo (One More Chance), Cherry Pie Picache (Foster Child), Judy Ann Santos (Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo), Maricel Soriano (A Love Story), and Lorna Tolentino (Katas ng Saudi).

Darling of the Press:
Dingdong Dantes, Allan K, Luis Manzano, Diether Ocampo, and Regine Velasquez.

The 24th Star Awards for Movies will be shown via delayed telecast on ABS-CBN 2’s “Sunday’s Best” on Sunday, June 29 at 10 PM.

Presenting the alluring Marietta Subong A.K.A. Pokwang. O di ba, ala A.K.A. Cassandra, KC Concepcion’s debut album.. Actually, Pokwang is a member of ABS CBN’s Star Magic. She got her screen name from Pokwang, the smart-aleck girl in Vincent Kua Jr.’s komiks character. Pokwang won in a search for comedic talents held by a defunct gag show of ABS-CBN. Several of the talents discovered in that show also launched their own showbiz career albeit unsuccessfully, it was only Pokwang who became a household name as a witty Filipina actress comedienne and TV Host, thanks to a comedic style patterned after Comedy Queen Ai Ai Delas Alas. Pokwang ascribes to herself the title, “ST Queen of the Philippine Cinema.” She is currently a co-host of the popular noontime show, Wowowee.

Piolo Pascual and Angel Locsin stars in the new show, Lobo, premiering tonight at what ABS-CBN calls, “ONE GR8, JANUARY 28, 2008!”. ONE GR8, JANUARY 28, 2008! is ABS-CBN’s new  primetime block and features three pilots.

The first pilot is Kung fu Kids after TV Patrol World, followed by the Piolo Pascual and Angel Locsin’s starrer, Lobo. Lobo is also Angel Locsin’s ABS-CBN debut and her return to a teleserye after a long absence. Lobo is said to have been big budgeted like a full length movie. And judging from the screencaps here, it looks like Lobo is not just your run of the mill teleserye. Expect Piolo Pascual and Angel Locsin to shake up the competition.

Lobo also stars Shaina Magdayao, Ryan Eigenman, Pilar Pilapil and many more young stars.

Another teleserye that will premiere tonight is Palos, starring Cesar Montano, Jake Cuenca and Roxanne Guinoo. It will air right after Lobo.

Completing ONE GR8, JANUARY 28, 2008! are Maging Sino Ka Man in its “walang tulugan” timeslot (lol) and the koreanovela, Spring Waltz.
