JabbaWockeeZ is a male dance crew composed mostly of Filipinos from California and is the winner of the MTV hip hop dance reality series, America’s Best Dance Crew or ABDC, in its first season.
American Idol judge Randy Jackson is the executive producer of ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ and the show is actually called “Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew.” America’s Best Dance Crew features dance crews from all over the United States and the JabbaWockeeZ known for wearing plain white Kabuki-style masks and gloves and performing synchronized dance moves being its season one winner has won $100,000 and a touring contract, and has since appeared in Ellen, Live with Regis and Kelly, at the MTV Movie Awards, BET Awards and the 2008 Teen Choice Awards, among others. A 14-year-old Filipina is currently and QUIETLY giving the Philippines much needed honor. In a country where we tend to destroy ourselves, Charice Pempengco is a welcome breeze. Charice Pempengco has been featured not once but twice already on E! ’s The Daily 10, first as who sung ‘ And I am Telling You” better, Charice or American Idol’s Jennifer Hudson?(grabe na etoh!), yun pa lang, i was completely blown away na…then on Nov. 16, she was again on E’s The Daily 10, as Hollywood Royalty(!) together with Matt Damon who was voted as Sexiest Man Alive of 2007.

One of the biggest television networks in Korea, SBS invited her in October to perform in a TV show called Star King. She performed And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going from Dreamgirls, which is jaw-dropping, watch the video below. She sang and danced with Korean boy group, Super Junior in one number and then had a duet with Kyu Hyun from Super Junior.

Charice started in ABS-CBN’s singing contest for kids, Little Big Star in 2005. She was eliminated from the singing contest but luckily got a wildcard and ended up third in the Finals. Talk about how ABS nearly lost this talent! That speaks well of the usual judge they get for these contests!

She became a youtube star when a user posted her performance of Whitney Houston’s hit I Will Always Love You which she performed in Little Big Star. Another video that became a hit was a face-off video of her and equally talented America’s Got Talent’s winner Bianca Ryan.

A record company in Sweden took notice and she went to Sweden to record six songs, among which were 2 cover songs, Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You and Kate Bush’s original Running Up That Hill, plus four originals namely Amazing, All The Money In The World, It Can Only Get Better, and Born To Love You Forever. These songs will be released digitally soon.

On November 28, 2007, Ellen DeGeneres showed web videos of different people she wanted to guest on her show, Ellen, and one of those is that Korean performance of Charice, Ellen did a standing ovation after.

It has been confirmed that Charice will soon be flying to LA to be a guest on Ellen. O di ba…something to be proud of as a Filipino.

GMA Artist Center headed by Ms. Yda Henares formally introduced the new GMA Artist Center talents. “Mas malakas ang dating ng mga lalaki,” one reporter loudly observed. It’s so unlike in StarStruck where the girls usually are more promising than the boys, this time, it’s the guys who look like they have more chances of making it than the girls.

Rye Fariñas is the second of six kids of the late Maria Theresa
Carlson and Gov. Rudy Fariñas. His eldest sister, Cristina, 23, is
also being introduced with him. Rye, 20, stands 5′10″ and is a
culinary arts sophomore at St. Benilde. He plans to put up his own
restaurant someday. His real name is Ryan. “But since GMA already has Ryan Yllana, they told me to use my nickname instead,” says Rye who sings and dances and wants to be part of “SOP”. He’s been doing ramp modeling since he was 17 and it’s his modeling agency that referred him to GMA-7.

Victor Aliwalas, 23, was born in Ohio then his family moved to New
York where he finished marketing and finance at the University of
Syracuse. He was already a mortgage broker when their family had a
vacation in Manila. His cousin showed his picture to a talent manager and he was hired to do modeling and later was referred to GMA 7. “I never imagined I’d be in showbiz as it was never my intention to sing or act,” he says. “But things just fell into place and now I’m happy to be with GMA.” His drawback is that he speaks Tagalog with an American accent. “Mabilis naman akong matuto and I want to try hosting,” he says. Victor’s dad is from Pampanga and his mom is from Bicol. He’s the youngest of two kids and his elder sister is a doctor. He stands 5′10″ and has a very hunky physique as he works out regularly in the gym.

Gino de la Peña, 20, is 5′9″ and does print modeling. Recently, a
talent scout from Chicago saw him in a mall and got him to be the
first Filipino model for Benneton. He has appeared in music videos and was once the leading man of Nina in one of her videos. He finished entrepreneurial management at Thames College and has hosted some shows of Christian Bautista since they belong to the same church. He is a fan of Katrina Halili and once spent P50,000 worth of Tricks Gel just to win a date with her.

Lawrence Gutierrez, 18, is 6′1″ and the cousin of Ruffa and Richard
Gutierrez, and also of Rye Farinas. He is a professional model who’s
trying showbiz for the first time. Einar Ingerbrigsten (we hope
they’ll give him a shorter screen name) is 22 and has done a number
of TV commercials. Joseph Marco, 18, has the potential of a teen
hearthrob. He has also done several commercials and is part of
Cosmo’s 2007 centerfolds. He was also in the top 30 of the Be Bench / The Model Search.

Bryann Jay Foronda, a commercial model, theater actor, choir member and athlete.

Josh, 19, a professional model who won a prestigious male competition in the US.

Joseph Marco, model, has done commercials for Jollibee, Head & Shoulders, Downy, and Red Ribbon, was one of the Cosmo 69 Bachelors for 2007.

Einar Ingebrigsten, 22, 5′11, Penshoppe model, a talent of Victorio Modeling Agency, Mossimo Bikini Summit 2005 winner, has appeared in a McDonald’s commercial with another GMA talent Rhian Ramos.

Some are already veterans in the entertainment industry or are not exactly new to showbiz, they are now managed by the GMA Artist Center, talents like Marvin Agustin, Paolo Paraiso, Jon
Joven, and child stars Renz Velario and Iking Mangundayao.

High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens, who incidentally is of Filipino descent, is involved in a photo scandal. Vanessa Hudgens poses in various states of undress and posing seductively for the camera. The photos were meant for, and she sent it to co-star and boyfriend, Zac Efron.

A rep for the High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens has confirmed that a photo currently circulating around the World Wide Web is of the eighteen year old actress. “This was a photo which was taken privately. It is a personal matter and it is unfortunate that this has become public.”

“Vanessa is only 19-years-old so she had no idea how her flirtatious act could threaten the future of the show.”

“Vanessa took photos of herself except for a gold chain around her waist.”

Disney execs have replaced scandal-embroiled star Vanessa Hudgens with “Cheetah Girls” star Adrienne Bailon in the ‘High School Musical’ series. UPDATE: Not true. Disney retained Vanessa Hudgens and they are now shooting High School Musical 3.
