The Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) announced the nominees of the 24th Star Awards For
Movies 2008, to be held on June 27, in the Henry Lee Irwin Theater, Ateneo De Manila University, Quezon City. The late Rudy Fernandez will be awarded a posthumous Ulirang Artista Lifetime
Achievement Award.

The 24th Star Awards for Movies will be shown via delayed telecast on ABS-CBN 2’s “Sunday’s Best” on Sunday, June 29 at 10 PM.

Danny Noriega criticizes American Idol for not giving him a free invite to the American Idol finale next week. Danny Noriega placed 11th in the current season of American Idol. He was invited by was it Ellen DeGeneres or Rosie O’ Donnel to sing in a cruse ship and to move in with her by Filipina Ramiele Malubay. Danny Noriega says that American Idol is full of $hit. A sneak peek of Charice Pempengco first ever music video entitled “It Can Only Get Better” directed by Raffy Francisco. It Can Only Get Better is the first single from the self-titled debut album of Charice Pempengco. Reportedly, Charice Pempengco, the album, will also contain “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” and “I Will Always Love You,” two songs which made her an international sensation. From South Korea’s Star King to Ellen to the Paul O’ Grady Show, Charice Pempengco is in the US right now for the SIPA Awards. On May 17, she will be joining other young talented kids in the hit daytime tv show, Oprah. Reportedly, she wowed host Oprah Winfrey.

Charice Pempengco joined ABS-CBN’s ” Little Big Star” singing contest in 2005, when she was only 13 years old. She was eliminated right away but was later picked in a wild card round to re-enter the competition. She worked her way up to become a finalist. She was a consistent top scorer during the early rounds. But during the finals, she only finished third place to the grand winner, Sam Concepcion.

A 14-year-old Filipina is currently and QUIETLY giving the Philippines much needed honor. In a country where we tend to destroy ourselves, Charice Pempengco is a welcome breeze. Charice Pempengco has been featured not once but twice already on E! ’s The Daily 10, first as who sung ‘ And I am Telling You” better, Charice or American Idol’s Jennifer Hudson?(grabe na etoh!), yun pa lang, i was completely blown away na…then on Nov. 16, she was again on E’s The Daily 10, as Hollywood Royalty(!) together with Matt Damon who was voted as Sexiest Man Alive of 2007.

One of the biggest television networks in Korea, SBS invited her in October to perform in a TV show called Star King. She performed And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going from Dreamgirls, which is jaw-dropping, watch the video below. She sang and danced with Korean boy group, Super Junior in one number and then had a duet with Kyu Hyun from Super Junior.

Charice started in ABS-CBN’s singing contest for kids, Little Big Star in 2005. She was eliminated from the singing contest but luckily got a wildcard and ended up third in the Finals. Talk about how ABS nearly lost this talent! That speaks well of the usual judge they get for these contests!

She became a youtube star when a user posted her performance of Whitney Houston’s hit I Will Always Love You which she performed in Little Big Star. Another video that became a hit was a face-off video of her and equally talented America’s Got Talent’s winner Bianca Ryan.

A record company in Sweden took notice and she went to Sweden to record six songs, among which were 2 cover songs, Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You and Kate Bush’s original Running Up That Hill, plus four originals namely Amazing, All The Money In The World, It Can Only Get Better, and Born To Love You Forever. These songs will be released digitally soon.

On November 28, 2007, Ellen DeGeneres showed web videos of different people she wanted to guest on her show, Ellen, and one of those is that Korean performance of Charice, Ellen did a standing ovation after.

It has been confirmed that Charice will soon be flying to LA to be a guest on Ellen. O di ba…something to be proud of as a Filipino.

- yes. with Tin Arnaldo way back. Well, not really cheated. But yes i did

- i never checked their cell or emails. The last time it happened was i think w/ tin, then des. the last time it happened. I just asked my friends if they see them often w/ a bar and they told me they saw her with someone else.

- that’s hard to answer. coz they are 2 different stations in some way… i started with GMA. Ok, so its like, ABS is a better station in terms of show, while GMA is a better station in terms of treating their talents…
MO : yah, i agree on that…they almost pamper their talents…

- myself. i think Carlo Maceda is the hardest one to beat.

- yes, funny thing, i was offered a year ago, and just he told me he wanted to see me, and was a manager of some sort and i think i knew him before from talent center, he is a gay and he told me a friend of his wants to meet me and they’re gonna pay me 200,000 and they told me we’re gonna stay in this hotel. What kind of guy do you think i am. I think it’s 200 or 250,000 i think..
Mojojo : Ang cheap mo naman..
MO : i am insulted i never had one of those. even 5,000, i think at least give me a flat rate

12. Bad encounter w/ a local celebrity? You or someone close to you
- this is hard coz if i’m gonna answer this, i’m going to say a name of one of the most powerful person. I haven’t encountered big stars, but it’s with my niece and sister in law, from a family member. The story is, ok this sounds funny. a tito of mine works in abs cbn. she brought my sis in law and niece to watch the show. And one break time the 2 wanted to take pictures with this famous celeb, of course they were starstrucked with this celebrity so they took out their camera… My niece, she was like 2 or 3 they were taking time. The celebrity told my niece ano ba ang tagal tagal nyo itulak kita jan eh. (Everybody was thinking it was Kris Aquino).

MO : Luis, was it ?
- yes. celebrities have their own bad days. it was just one bad day. yes it was Kris Aquino..

- once every single day.. Polo Ravales, Christian Vasquez. During shoots when we were doing movies and stage shows.

- i cant remember. maybe Christian. Coz honestly it was my first time to kiss a guy, i don’t do it on tv, just on stage, it wasn’t just as memorable but wala yun lang yon eh. It was sort of french kiss but w/o tongue.

- i haven’t. almost yes..can i say hi to my friends, Butch, Paul, Mon Castro, and CJ. With Carlos. It was a scene na kukunan sa dulo ng walang hanggan, we rehearsed it in the wrong way, nung aactual take na, he grabbed me from my back and then he threw me on the
table, that wasn’t supposed to be the scene. when you’re doing
that, me as an actor, us as actors, we should know what we do and how we choreograph the scene. I think the food on the table was adobo, food spilled on me all over my clothes, and i got mad and then asked ano ba?
