The original and legendary Superstar, Nora Aunor classic film Himala, is being considered as an Asian film classic of all time by CNN UK. CNN-UK’s provisional list of Greatest Asian Films of All Time lists Himala as one of the best ever made Asian film. Himala is a Tagalog or Filipino word which means miracle. One of the lines in Himala has become part of Philippine mainstream society what with all the impersonators and stand up comics mimicking Nora Aunor’s delivery of the line, “Walang Himala!”..LOL. Himala is a must see for everyone especially for those who have not watched it yet. Better watch it now, go search for a copy, you’re missing half of your Philippine Showbiz life by not being able to watch it. Nora Aunor won numerous Best Actress awards for Himala in the Philippines and abroad and the movie itself has also won countless Best Film awards. Himala is produced by then First Daughter Rep. Imee Marcos under the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines. Himala featured unknown actors (then) except Nora Aunor who was then an established icon in Philippine Cinema. The film’s story is based on an account of the alleged apparitions of the Virgin Mary on Cabra Island in 1967. It is written by Ricky Lee and directed by one of Philippine Cinema’s great directors, Ishmael Bernal. Nora Aunor is no longer active in Philippine Showbiz and now lives in the US.

I was just wondering na bakit nadaig ng Relasyon ang Himala, acting wise lamang na lamang si Ate Guy, Vilma is good but the acting of Nora on the said film is much much beter, matang mata na lang, milya ang lamang ni Nora kay Vilma. Huwag masasaktan ang mga Vilmanians, pero di ko maisip kung ano ang batayan noong 1983 para makopo ni Vilma ang lahat ng awards. Imulat natin ang ating mga mata, bago makagrand slam si Vilma, si Nora ang nakakuha ng talong awards sa isang movie. Kung matatalino ang mga Vilmanians, makikita ninyo ang katotohanan na una si Nora na makatanggap ng tatlong tropeo sa isang pelikula sa tatlong sunod na award giving body sa kasaysayan ng Pelikulang Pilipino. At kung walang Nora Aunor na bumulaga sa panahong 1970, walang Vilma Santos na lilitaw. Wag mag dibate kung sino ang sikat, kung sino ang mahusay, dahil kung wala si Nora, wala rin si Vilma. Obviously kahit na maliit lang na commercial movie ang relasyon ni vilma of mother lily’s regal films but remember it was also directed by Ismael Bernal, di tulad ng Himala na pang international release with a budget of 3 million at malaki nayan dati to produced a movie. Naligw ata si Darna sa thread ni Nora. OO nag grand slam nga si Vilma sa Relasyon, eh may katuturan ba ang grandslam niya? Eh di malaking WALA. After 26 years Nora’s recognition is much much much better than any LOCAL GRANDSLAM received by Vilma in Relasyon. This is a world recognition and there is no politics involved here. Her recognition also includes honor and joy to her country whereas Vilma’s local recognition is focus on her acting only — there is no significance at all.
Kung bibigayan ng pansin ang acting ni Nora sa Himala sa kasalukuyan compared sa akting ni Vilma sa Relasyon, hands-down si Nora sa Himala. People were not ready on Nora’s acting style in Himala because it’s way ahead of its time, subdued but intense and powerful. Yun ang hindi kaya ni Vilma. Vilma’s role in Relasyon can be done by any local actresses nowadays but no one can do justice on Nora’s performance in Himala except for Nora hereself….NO ONE !!!!
It doesn’t mean na mas maraming pelikula si Vilma eh mas mahusay na siyang artista kay Nora. That’s illogical. I’ll give you a very clear example…kung mas maraming awards si Sharon Cuneta kay Lolita Rodriguez, does it mean mas magaling si Sharon kay Lolita? The answer is a big NO !!!!
In many recent surveys, Nora is always on the number 1 slot followed by Vilma and the rest. Kahit majority ng mga vilmanians alam nila na mas magaling si Nora kay Vilma as an actress and that is a fact. Mahirap lang talagang tanggapin ang katotohanan. Nora’s achievements as an actress is way far greater than Vilma many aspects.

Kidding aside, ito naman ang dapat pag-isipan nating mga Noranians: ngayong green card holder na si Ate Guy, which is just a step away from becoming an American citizen, mukhang malabo nang maging Philippine National Artist pa si Ate Guy. Ang American citizenship dati ni Katie Dela Cruz, ang Reyna ng Bodabil, ang naging hadlang kaya hindi siya naproklamang National Artist. If for some reason that Ate Guy will give up her citizenship as filipino and decide to apply for her status as an american citizen, she can also apply for dual citizenship in the Philippines later on.

It would be sad if this thread just turned out to be just another debate about Nora vs. Vilma. Grow up and enough already! These are two respectable actresses. Why should they be pitted against each other? These pitiful rivalries should be relegated to the fans of Sarah Geronimo and KC Concepcion. Really now! It is insulting to both actresses – both legends in their own right. I have always been a fan of both Nora and Vilma. I believe Nora’s rise to stardom is phenomenal and remains unmatched in Philippine cinema history, but that is not to say Vilma hasn’t proven her worth and longevity as an artist. It is an insult to the artistry of Bernal and Aunor – and surely an insult to ALL Filipino artists – to claim that Himala merely won because Nora Aunor’s fans voted online to make the movie win. How close-minded can people get? Himala was a masterpiece! Relasyon was superb as well. But I don’t really see why anyone would bring up Relasyon when the thread is clearly about celebrating Himala’s victory in CNN. Was Himala’s victory a direct insult on Vilma’s worth as an artist? Was it meant to degrade the caliber of Relasyon? I don’t think so.
A Filipino film was hailed as one of the world’s best. Can’t we all just be happy about that? Only an immature, close-minded idiot would refuse to acknowledge that THAT is an outstanding feat. Vilma santos is much more excellent in Darna -which nora cannot do justice to play the role to the hilt. Kay ba nya ang mag costume ng darna?Then Vilma is very good compare to nora in Merika, while Vilma's Miss X. Then Vilma has splendid perfomances in Pinay American Style. According to organizers of the Green Planet Movie Awards, Nora Aunor "was selected by movie viewers and online voters from over 100 countries" as the Best Asian Actress of the Decade.

Philippine Superstar Nora Aunor has been chosen to receive an award as one of the "Ten Best Asian Actresses of the Decade" in the 2010 Green Planet Movie Awards to be held in Hollywood on March 23, 2010. Aunor was initially included by the organizers in a shortlist of 30 of the finest actresses in the Asia-Pacific region vying for a slot in the category.
This piece of good news was relayed to Ms. Cece Valdez (who serves as Nora Aunor's executive assistant in the U.S.) through an e-mailed letter from David R. Bracey, Organizing Committee Vice-Chair of the 2010 Green Planet Movie Awards.
The letter revealed that Nora Aunor garnered an overwhelming number of votes in the category. It pointed out, "She was selected by movie viewers and online voters from over 100 countries."
According to Ms. Valdez, Nora Aunor, who currently resides in Beverly Hills, California, has confirmed her attendance to the awards ceremony.
The Green Planet Movie Awards will be held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles with an outdoor cocktail reception commencing at 6:30 pm, and the sit-down dinner gala and awards ceremony from 7:20 pm to 10:30 pm.
One of the highlights of the event, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the birth of acclaimed filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, will be the main tribute to the Japanese director. Members of the press from all over the world will be in attendance.
The Green Planet Movie Awards is organized by the Anaheim University Akira Kurosawa School of Film and the Academia Foundation, with the The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites Los Angeles, Christie, Asiana Airlines, and ANA as sponsors. It is endorsed by Japan Society, the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, Japan Foundation in Los Angeles, and the Korean Film Council.
