Manny Pacquiao won in his dream match with Oscar Dela Hoya. Manny Pacquiao subdued Oscar Dela Hoya in the 8th round. At the bell ending the 8th round, Oscar Dela Hoya, sporting a visibly bruised face, was asked if he will still go on with his fight and on to the 9th round. Oscar Dela Hoya decided to a face saving stoppage. Dela Hoya could have done so to avoid the embarrassment of a knockout. In his victory interview, Manny Pacquiao was still gracious in victory. He said Oscar Dela Hoya is still his boxing idol and which Oscar Dela Hoya replied that Manny Pacquiao is also now his idol.

Long Live Manny Pacquiao! The Philippines is very proud of you! Magnanimous in victory and is very humble.
