The Philippines Official Entry to the 2009 Oscar Awards, Ploning, topbilled and produced by Judy Ann Santos, failed to make the cut out of the 65 entries. The Oscar’s has trimmed down to just 9 films to be considered in the Best Foreign Languange Film Category. Eventually it will be further trimmed to the final 5 out of which the winner will be picked.
The Nine (9) films to be considered in the 2009 Oscar Awards Best Foreign Languange Film Category are:
“Revanche,” directed by Gotz Spielmann (Austria)
“The Necessities of Life,” directed by Benoit Pilon (Canada)
“The Class,” directed by Laurent Cantet (France)
“The Baader Meinhof Complex,” directed by Uli Edel (Germany)
“Waltz With Bashir,” directed by Ari Folman (Israel)
“Departures,” directed by Yojiro Takita (Japan)
“Tear This Heart Out,” directed by Roberto Sneider (Mexico)
“Everlasting Moments,” directed by Jan Troell (Sweden)
“3 Monkeys,” directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan (Turkey)
This is rather unfortunate as Judy Ann Santos made a lot of effort in raising funds in order to help boost Ploning’s chances at this year’s Oscar’s. There was even criticisms hurled at Juday on the way she handled the fund-raising events as almost a “begging” event. But at least Juday and director Dante Nico Garcia made a fighting effort. There’s always a next time.

hay naku, mga ambisyoso. kelan lang napahiya kayo sa Cannes dahil sa SERBIS. Nag-walkout pa nga ang isang judge dun. Ngayon naman oscars, hoy gising! pang-metro manila film PESTEval lang kayo. Ang quality, ka-level lang ng TANGINA NYONG LAHAT (tama ba?), ISKUL BUKOL, SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL – mga bulok!
Hindi bale ng hindi nanalo ang maisali na as one of the lists is like a winner already. kayo talaga dapat maging proud p kayo eh..para naman kayong crab

can you people please watch what you’re mouth?… Grabe, kung laitin nyo ang pinoy prang madami kayong alam ah… TACKLESSATION at carl, FILIPINO QUALITY is FILIPINO QUALITY… AMERICAN QUALITY is AMERICAN QUALITY… wag kayong mag compare dahil alam ko yang mga inferences nyo ay based sa comparison.. There are several filipino ,made films na tlgang nagpapakita ng totoong kaya ng mga pinoy…

JUDY ANN’S “PLONING” IS COMPARED TO A BABY WITH A FACE THAT ONLY A MOTHER CAN LOVE. JUDY ANN HAS TO NURTURE THIS, TEACH IT TO GROW GRACEFULLY LIKE HER “FUTURE PLONINGS”. PERHAPS THE NEXT ONE WILL BE A SUCCESS. KULANG LANG SA EXPERIENCE AT KONTING BIGAT NANG ISTORYA. . .BAGAY NA HINAHANAP NANG ATING FOREIGN JUDGES. PLONING IS MISSING THAT “IT” THING THAT GETS THE ATTENTION OF ANY JUDGE SA OSCARS. BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME. ANOTHER OBSERVATION. . .BAKIT WALA ANG COMMENTS NI ALFIE LORENZO SA ABANTE TONITE. WE HERE ABROAD LOVES TO READ ABANTE TONITE. I AM CURIOUS ABOUT ALFIE’S FEEDBACK ON PLONING NOT MAKING IT TO THE OSCARS.
LAPTOP FROM THE BAY AREA
there are a lot of other Filipino movies and actors. why ploning? they should send something more edgy. more research, please. why send an iyakan movie? the eventual winner is usually played here in the states. who will watch juday but the Filipinos only. i am not an expert, but movies like land down under, baler or cul de sac with piolo, anne or sam will be more attractive to the judges. the judges look at the faces too. these movies have interesting stories than ploning. i do not think juday has box office appeal in the states. sa title pa lang at sa star, you will think it is an iyakan movie. i hope the Filipino industry heads will look outside the box. i have nothing against juday but she is only for Filipino audience.
