President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo named the seven National Artists for 2009. They are: actor and filmmaker Manuel Urbano, a.k.a. Manuel Conde, for film and broadcast (posthumous); novelist Lazaro Francisco for literature (posthumous); Federico Aguilar Alcuaz for visual arts, painting, sculpture and mixed media; Cecilia Guidote-Alvarez for theater; film director and producer Carlo J. Caparas for visual arts and film; Francisco “Bobby” Mañosa for architecture; and Pitoy Moreno for fashion design.

When Comedy King Dolphy celebrated his birthday in Wowowee, he expressed his desire to be bestowed the National Artist title. The choice of Carlo J. Caparas as National Artist sparked online and offline debates as to whether or not, Dolphy deserved the title more but did not get it because of political affiliations.

Poll:

If you were President, who would you have chosen Nat’l Artist for Film & Visual Arts?

The National Artist title is given to a Filipino who has been given the highest recognition for having made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts, namely music, dance, theater, visual arts, literature, film, broadcast arts, fashion design and architecture, and allied arts. Members of the Order of National Artist are given stipends and other benefits, including grants for artistic projects.

The search is conducted by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The NCCA and CCP submit a list of recommendees to the Office of the President for signing. However, the President can alter the recommended list.

Please, Carlo Caparas is not an artist. He makes stupid movies. His komiks are even worse. There is not a trace of intelligence in his work. He's only there for the money. And he looks the part.

This issue is not as new to the tortured and disgusted eyes and ears of those people who squint at the right path of knowing. This tyrannical and arbitrary decision manifests the unjust and maladjusted mind of the country which supposed to be a paragon of equity and competency. The apt people should have this particular and important prerogative(those who know more!!!) and not the one who knows naught but to use her sovereignty to fulfill her humbug caprice.
Is gloria a dab in art?
    I think she is.
Just look how many a masks she has worn .
    The art of government!
    The art of Caprice!!
    The of power!
The art of the president's whim!!!
Give those "who Know" the prerogative!!!

“MARS RAVELO” has a legendary works and contribution in the art industry and was super eminent.

I think Mars Ravelo made a lot of novels that touched and cheers a lot of hearts; while Caparas made people "masa "scare.d with his cheap movies.
My father said sinced he was a child he likes Ravelos novels, Pinoy cartoon characters and fantacy stories.

This is not about how many novels Caparas/Ravelo had made, but the quality of their novels. Bad government affected the life of Filipinos in all walks of life. So much garbage going on!!!

Who is Carlo Caparas? I grew up in Sampaloc Manila & I never heard of his name in my entire life not like Pablo Gomez during 60's & 70's in the comics industry during those years. I just heard of him recently thru my friends that he's a malacanang boy & a part of politician affiliations. In other words he's untouchable as long as Gloria still the president. All I can say is SHAM!!! on you CARLO CAPARAS
for accepting that award that you never deserved. I voted the King of Comedy Dolphy Quizon should get
that award & not you. In other words for the record is what you have in your resume that Dolphy Quizon doesn't have in his entire life. So! Carlo Caparas you're don't belong to "Hall of Famer" & the King of Comedy deserved that award…

Got something to say?
