Dennis Trillo shines in Astig (Mga Batang Kalye)

Astig is an entry to the 2009 Cinemalaya Film Festival to be held on July 17 to 26, 2009. Astig will have its theatrical run at the Cultural Center Of The Philippines Main Theatre from July 18 to 26. Astig features four episodes with the first episode featuring Dennis Trillo and Glaiza De Castro. The second episode stars Edgar Allan Guzman; third episode stars Arnold Reyes and the fourth, stars Sid Lucero. Astig (Mga Batang Kalye) is produced by first-time film producer Boy Abunda and Boy So of La Carmela De Boracay Hotel fame. Astig is directed by GB Sampedro.

Boy Abunda is all praises for Dennis Trillo, gushing that, “(Dennis Trillo) Ang galing niya talaga sa pelikula! I watched the film from its rough cut to the final cut, ang galing! Ang galing niya!” I have watched his previous films, that’s why nga nagagalingan ako sa kanya dahil… I don’t know how to say it, but it’s so out of character, that’s what makes it a beautiful performance. It’s so out of character, yet it’s in his character in the film. He’s so good!

Boy Abunda was asked why get Dennis Trillo who is affiliated with GMA-7 for his first indie film? Boy said, “Dapat, ang independent film should be able to break the barriers, di ba? Siyempre, kapag nagka-casting ka, maraming pangalan ‘yan. Pero isa dun sa ninais naming tumanggap ng role was Dennis Trillo. Pero it’s a lie to say na si Dennis lamang. Kasi, kapag nagpo-produce ka naman ng independent film, una, wala ka namang perang pang-offer na malaki. This is not as if you’re paying an actor what is due them, what they deserve. So, may mga pangalan ka at isa sa pangalang pinangarap namin was Dennis.”
