Forgot to publish this. This should have been published days ago. Rather belatedly, this is worth it. Charice reacts to Freddie Aguilar calling her one of the “monkeys,” the others being Journey frontman, Arnel Pineda and Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano.
Charice or her rep emailed this blog saying she would not be where she is right now if she did not sing Whitney Houston and Celine Dion’s hits when she was still a struggling singer. Charice also emphasized that Oprah Winfrey, one of the world’s most influential people, would not have noticed her if she sang Filipino songs.
“Madi-discover po ba ako kung hindi ko po kinanta ang kanta ni Ms.Whitney? ni Ms.Celine? Kung kakanta po ako ng Tagalog sa Oprah, maiintindihan po ba ni Ms.Oprah?†Charice said in her statement.
“Sila rin naman po namimili ng mga kakantahin ko po. At wala po akong magagawa doon. Dahil kahit sila po mismo, English po ang pinakakanta nila sa akin… and siyempre po iyon po ang papatok sa Amerika. Kahit naman po hindi ako kumanta ng Tagalog sa puso ko Filipino pa rin po ako,” Charice said.
Charice said she also believes that, even if she copies the styles of other international artists, no one has the right to compare her and other Filipino singers who made it in the international music scene to monkeys.
“Hindi naman po sa (dahil magaling sa) panggagaya matatawag na po tayong unggoy. Para po sa akin (ang panggagaya) ay isa iyon talento na hindi magagawa ng ibang lahi ng basta basta po.”
Despite the offhanded remark of Freddie Aguilar, Charice holds no grudge against Freddie Aguilar and still admires him and respects his opinion.

gago, alam mo ba kung ilang bansa sumikat yung "anak"? siyempre hindi kasingsikat ni charice kasi hindi naman pa-superstar yung dating ni freddie e. mali din naman si charice na porke sa US ka ay kailang kantang kano ang kakantahin mo. any filipino who had given a chance to show case their talent and became somewhat famous in the philippines or in any other country is a blessing. how many of us can sing like charice, arnel or ka freddie? i don't and perhaps many of us can't. what i am trying to say is….charice, arnel and freddie did their very best to do what they can to survive by singing and are rewarded financially. why would ka freddie made this kind of ugly comment? was he somehow jealous w/ charice and arnel because these two lovely people are on top of their careers and ka freddie is down below somewhere that he thinks he has been neglected or overlooked by many of us. ka freddie, you've been on top before and
couldn't be on top all the time because your time will eventually go down but not to the extent people will ignore or hate you. you should be happy for charice and arnel and for any future filipino who will succeed as well.
