I want to talk to you about the road on samar and how you can make a differnece with your contacts.
The road from Allen to Tacloban on Samar is the worst road in the Philippines. Take a bus/van with camera crew from Allen to Tacloban then take a busvan from Angeles to Subic what a differnece why has Luzon got so many double highways and the rest of the Philippines none and Samar the worst national highway in the Philippines. I asked a few people and they sa corruption I say apathy and a governemtn that hasn’t got its priortys of where to spend money right. If you want people to come to eastern samar you will need to fix this road it is a NationaL Disgarce and I couldn’t wait to get off Samar I was tired and exhausted and could only think if this is the state of the roads there can’t be much else to see. Your Island has been totally forgotten you and the govenor and politicians need to shame the governor and govenrment to take reponsibility for highways outside Luzon that are of National importance.
I sorry I used this forum to send this message but I couldn’t find your email address anywhere.
I have married a girl from Biliran and the problems I have seen in the time I have been here are unbelievable. I am sure you know about alot these problems.
From families living below the bread line, kids runnning around when they should be at school, apathy to solve problems, prositutio deeply imbedded into the culture for thirty years as a means to send money to the family and get a foreign husband, families with no water supply toilets.
Lack of supplies to educate the children at school lack of funding to provide funding when families fall on hard times and can’t afford even the transport to send a child to school, families who only waqy out of problems is to send there daughters to ANgeles to provide much needed money and chrildren not going to school and living in a cramped space. Unsafe vehicle on the road with so many defects it defies belief, unlicenced drivers on the road that have been driving on the road since the age of fifteen. I have never seen a person help a beggar in this country other than giving them a few pesos you are all insulated against poverty and problems and don’t care except for yourselves. There are some very rich people in this country who can help get there support.
The problems in the Philippines are far greater than the current economic crisis as some of the problems are embedded i n the culture and it will take grass roots support s well as government and business support to solve the problems.
GMA has not got a clue about poverty and all the governemtn can do is talk about people who have been corrupt. I don’t see any real work done by anyone to solve problems and find answers to problems for example the problem of protituion has been with in this country for over thirty years and is deep lt embedded in the culture. When families have a problem they send there daughters to Angeles or Manila to be dancers(prostitutes). Although some have the grand scheme of marryinga foreigner to get out of there predicameIN villages it is deeply embedded and there isn’t a family that hasn’t sent one of there daughters to Angeles/Manila.
I believe you are d0ing the right thing and focusing on Borongan where you came from but the Givernor and you need to stand up and tell students there is another way other than getting on a bus to Mnaila to help your family.
The road from Allen is a very important road and if fixed will be tourists to Eastern Samar if properly. I was so exhausted when I drove that road I couldn’t think of anything but I can’t wait to get off this good forsaken Island. Go to Bohol and see what they have done and how they have done it.
I think you are in aposition to solve some of the problems in the Philippines with the help of friends because you have faced difficulties and know what is like and suffered.
Thanks for taking the time to read my message.
    Best regards
    John Press
